In 2018, he achieved his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Administration from Auburn University.

A dedicated veteran of Alabama’s public education system, Dr. Wooten has served at multiple levels, including eleven years as a high school teacher in Hale County and four years at Eastwood Middle School in Tuscaloosa City Schools. With a positive mindset, she knows there is nothing the Westlawn community cannot achieve together. She is eager to collaborate with students, families, and staff to ensure a successful and rewarding school year.

Mr. John Dixon-Goodson, EdS

Mr. John Dixon-Goodson is honored to serve as the Eighth Grade Assistant Principal at Westlawn Middle School, returning to the place where his teaching career first began. With over a decade of experience in education, he has served in various roles, including special education teacher, eighth-grade math teacher, Algebra I teacher, and self-contained teacher at both Westlawn Middle and Davis-Emerson Middle School. Administratively, he previously served as the Assistant Principal at the William E. Burkett Multi-Handicap Center in the Jefferson County School System.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from The University of Alabama in 2014, his master’s degree from the University of West Alabama in 2019, and his educational specialist degree from the University of West Alabama in Spring 2024. One of his long-term goals is to pursue a doctoral degree from a Historically Black College or University.

Outside of work, he values peace, relaxation, and the simple joys of life. While often a homebody, football season always finds him on UA’s campus—rolling with the Tide and enjoying game day traditions.

Mr. Dixon-Goodson’s philosophy of education is grounded in the belief that students walk into classrooms each day as blank pages, and it is the responsibility of educators to fill those pages with positivity, knowledge, and encouragement. He firmly believes in the age-old truth that it takes a village to raise a child and is committed to working alongside all stakeholders to ensure every student’s success.
